Person-Centered Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy based on the humanistic perspective and developed by the American psychologist Carl Rogers.
This therapeutic approach assumes that every individual possesses an inherent potential for personal development and constructive life shaping. Person-Centered Psychotherapy consistently starts from the person's experiences and worldview, considering them as an expert in their own lived experience.
The professional assistance provided by person-centered psychotherapists is offered in an atmosphere of freedom and openness, facilitated by fundamental attitudes characterized by unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness (also known as "congruence"). This can support the individual's personal development. The psychological growth process, occurring within and through relationships with the surrounding world, allows the person to gain more self-confidence and increasingly make decisions autonomously.
